I know your away playing ball now the season started. HOWEVER, now that you are living in Idaho, don't you think the Cowboy games should be televised here? Americas Team should be televised ALL OVER AMERICA. How can I see my man in those tight pants if I can't find the game???? I can understand if it was not televised in say... Los Angeles... but Idaho.. the new home of Tony Romo.. we have a problem!
I am hoping this is cleared up before the start of the regular season and the road to the Superbowl. Please don't be derailed by preseason scores. It's like golf.. if you do well on the driving range, you always play a lousy round. Bad on the range, a great game!
A couple of weeks ago my good friend Laura came to visit. She isn't much of an "outdoor" girl but we camped in the Trailer. ( aka "Chuck"). She was a trooper, we made smores and cooked dinner both nights outside. We didn't go second class either, check out these steaks! And true to Idaho ( although we were in Wyoming) we had potatoes. If I get her blessing I will post the smore photo. It was so funny when we woke up and she was freezing. The beginning of August and it dipped down into the 30's in the Tetons. I don't know how to use the heater in my trailer, I say more blankets!!!! Thats all you need. :)
I put these photos under the "travel" category. When the blog started, in order to get photos like this, I had to TRAVEL. Somewhere far. Like Wyoming. Now I have to drive an hour and a half. I need a new category. I still can not phathom I actually live here. It has been an experience, both good and bad.
I am still happy I moved, though living outside of Texas has been eye opening. I miss the Texas heat. Today it was 82. The low is 44. Don't get me wrong, I love the weather, but its like winter is looming like that cold you know your going to get when your throat first gets sore. On Saturday I had a booth at an event here on the Snake river. Its called the duck races, and they release all these ducks into the river and the first one that goes over the falls wins. It wins a lot of great things from businesses throughout the city. Like Jewelry. This is a yellow plastic duck with sunglasses, Welcome to Idaho Falls, because this was a big event. We get to the river, and prepare to set up... and guess what... ITS COLD!!!! The turn out is low because the weather is bad and everyone is wearing COATS!!! IN AUGUST. At this point, I am thinking WHAT HAVE I DONE????????
Aside from that, I have been very busy trying to get the word out about my studio. I had my first baby session on Friday and it went so well! I cant wait to blog some of those photos. I LOVE my used beat up, leaking trailer. I have yet to use any of the appliances, I truly just sleep in it.
The below photo is from late April when I came out to visit and started to think about moving. You can see the snow was slowly melting and the mountains were covered. This photo is for Kenny. Here is a taste of Wyoming for you!!!!
From what I understand, owls are what suck people into birding. I am so cliche, because I LOVE owls. I can not get enough. When I moved here, I had never seen a Great Gray up close. Now I have seen more than one along with babies and it has been one of the best experiences I have had since moving. This particular owl, I could photograph from the road and at one point, she flew right by my head and I swear had I reached out, I could have touched her. My eyes were huge, and she was going about her business, hunting for mice. I printed this photo on canvas, and I love it. Definitely one of my favorites. This is for Olivia. I have many more owl pics coming your way!
Bear cubs. Thats all I have to say. In Alaska, we had these cubs of the year and I posted some of them playing with mom in a previous post. This was taken at the end of the day, ( which in Alaska was close to 11pm.. the sun only went down for maybe an hour) and the cubs ran to the log and started playing. They were up and down and swatting each other. I can't wait to post the video, most people never get to witness this innocence among animals. They looked at us with curiosity and showed off in a playful nature. How cute are they????! This is for Lola.. some baby baaaaaaayers. :)
HAPPPPPPPPY BASTILLE DAY!!! I listened to Carla Bruni this morning to celebrate the French! The only thing missing was French Onion Soup. I have no idea where to get that in Idaho Falls.
My attempt at daily blogging was halted yesterday, on the first day. I was so busy lounging around the house with Romo. What a nice surprise, Tony flew to Idaho to live happily every after. Or at least until football season starts.
A girl can dream can't she? Looking forward to a GREAT football season now. I will address the "breakup" in an upcoming blog.
On to the bears... I had a great trip to Alaska. We flew into Kodiak, then took a float plane to our boat on the Katmai coast. We had beautiful weather, great bear viewing and fishing!!! I have a freezer full of Halibut. Thank goodness I have something to feed Tony.
There were about 10 people on the boat, and a good mix of personalities. I had the best roommate, Margie, who is coming to see me in the fall. YAY! She kept me laughing the entire trip with her animated story telling.
One weird thing about Summer in Alaska, it is light all day and almost all night. There are only a couple of dark hours. It never felt like it was time to go to sleep, being so bright out. The rocking of the boat cured that, I slept like a baby. Here is a summary of our schedule: eat, bear view, nap, eat, nap, fishing, birds, eat, bears, fishing, sleep. HEAVEN.
Two naps a day, on a boat, can cure all evil. Bliss.
Here are a few shots. I'm still weeding through these along with a hundred other photos from June. I will blog about my move soon. Everyone wants to know if I am surviving and how Idaho is, and I will give all the juicy, boring details.
This is one of my favorite shots, because you can see not only this massive bear on the move, but his HUGE LONG CLAWS. Don't piss him off.
We were lucky to find this mom with cubs, who we photographed a couple of different days. These cubs were so playful and innocent. I hope they survive and live a long old bear life. I took video of these guys, and will be uploading it this week.
The brown bears of Katmai are HUGE. I can not describe the tracks they leave.. these bears are so beautiful and fun to watch.
Sometimes I was worried we might miss one of our two naps on the boat. So I prepared in the field. When the light gets bad, or we are doing what most of wildlife photography is about... WAITING... I napped. Don't hate me because I have sexy hip waders.
On the boat, we had two big holidays. Canada day and Independence Day. With both Canadians and Americans, we had a good celebration. On the 4th, we had a picnic on an island. In Alaska. It was unreal. Hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon, potato salad and good friends. Thanks to Dan and Tanya Cox for putting on a great trip, a great picnic, and for these candids.
I am back home from Alaska. I was excited to get home and back to work at the studio. Things are coming along nicely there, and I will post photos soon. Before I can wade through the Brown Bear photos, I had to organize some things I shot the last couple of months. Here is a photo I took before the sun came up just outside of Idaho Falls. I am working on a slideshow of images and many blogs to catch everyone up on the last couple of months. I am having a blast and still happy I moved. Lots of life changes, hopefully for the best!
I will be offline and away from my computer until July 7th. I am in Kodiak, Alaska about to photogaph brown bears and cubs!!!!!!!! I have so much updating and blogging to do. I have been busy getting the studio ready and out shooting in the parks.
I bought a trailer!!!!!!! An 1977 Komfort. Its a joy! A hippy beauty. Ill update when I get back from my trip. Happy Fourth and Happy Canada Day!
That is what the license plates say... Famous Potatoes. I have moved to Idaho. This year has been difficult and full of changes. My dad died in March.. then my grandmother died a month later. I packed up my possessions, moved out of my house and across country to a state where I know no one. NADA. Not a soul. My parents helped me pack the U-haul and we drove the long roads of Texas, Oklahoma, KANSAAAAAAAAS ( which never ended) and then Colorado.. right into Idaho. I drove one Uhaul, my step dad drove one and my mom drove my truck. They helped me move in and unpack and I could not have done it without them!
There has been more than one moment where I have paused and said, What the H E double hockey sticks am I doing?! Who moves to Idaho? However, things seem to be falling into place. I have enjoyed the time alone and getting my head together. The dogs love it.
Why Idaho? Close to the parks. That sums it up. I tried to find the largest city within driving distance to some of the best parks in the country. Wyoming and Montana are pricey and Idaho Falls seems to be reasonable with a lot of families, so I can operate my studio. Babies and Bears.. is that too much to ask? No.
I rented a house and studio and have to make another trip to Dallas to get the rest of my stuff. Another U-haul. Sigh. Avoiding Kansas this time. No offense. Blogging shall resume this week...
There is no Chick Fil A in Idaho Falls. You know, the place I had lunch every single day...
There is no La Madeline in Idaho Falls.....
There is no Neiman Marcus in Idaho Falls... OK this is a good thing. Im on a severe budget now.
I have learned of this thing called wind burn? My face appears to have a sunburn.. but it was not hot and there was no snow. Its from the wind. Its horrid.
Today it was in the 60's and everyone was out and about wearing shorts.. biking.. running.. enjoying the outdoors. I think when the weather is bad most of the year, you appreciate the good days more. When I left Texas, it was in the 90's.
There is no Professional Football in Idaho Falls.
Tony Romo will visit, I have faith.
The Dallas Cowboys ARE In Idaho Falls because I saw a truck two houses down with the famous blue star on the back. :)
I will get back to regular blogging soon... I promise. And boy will I have a lot to say! Here is a photo from January of Buffy the Buffalo. She seemed to be dying. Everytime we passed her, she was in the same spot, not having moved for a day or two. This day, we drove by to check on her, and she got up and started rolling around and she was SHOWING OFF! Never saw her again, so in my mind she went on to snow covered greener pastures and is happy and healthy. :)
Sorry I have been slow posting bear photos. It has been a difficult week. Looking at polar bear babies, without a doubt, helps. Here are a few more, and I hope to go through them all and post a bunch soon.
I have been promising a shoe blog.. but since Spring is knocking at the door... the winter boots are shelved. I have something better. My new pair of Louboutins. So simple, yet sexy, this has to be BEST louboutin yet!!!!!!! I LOVE THEM!
It is not easy taking a photo of a shoe while it is on your foot. Do not try this at home, leave it to the professionals.
Stogie manages to get in every shot. Poor little guy has a horrible ear infection. :(
And this is for Kori.. who brought up the topic of Sugarland, not I! This is my new obsession, Taylor Swift has been getting a break while I wear out Sugarlands new CD. This is my favorite song on the CD... it is SO SEXY.
I think Kori needs to love this band too. She must love everything I love, thats the friendship rule. And Kori, next time a certain someone gets out of line, I will lend you my new Louboutins to kick him back in shape! Be mad at the guy... not the background music... LOVE YA TOO SUGA ( as in suga.. land)
