Blackie
 Sunday, 10/25/09

I love my bears. I often post Grizzly and Polar Bear photos and the Black bears get the shaft. Not from lack of love, more from lack of sight! This fall, the black bears have been out searching for and eating berries. Most of the sightings were quick and in the distance. A few times the last month, I was lucky enough to get close to these gorgeous guys for a photo op.

The first shot is my absolute favorite. This little cub spent over an hour climbing in the trees, exploring every little branch and then clung onto this limb for a nap. He hung there for an afternoon snooze and acted completely unaffected by the dozen of photographers gawking from the road.

This mama looks fat and healthy. The berries were so plentiful this year they seemed to have an all you can eat buffet.

This is one of the prettiest black bears I have seen. She is healthy, pretty and mama to one cute cub.

I have a lot more where these came from, next up are MOOSE!

Foxy Mama
 Wednesday, 8/19/09

I wonder if Fox kits have the same breath as puppies. PUPPY BREATH... ahhhhh... I did not get close enough to find out. Watching these guys run and play and nip... mama busy keeping track of all eight of them.. it was not easy. I could have watched this all day. When mom was out hunting, the babies would peek out and slowly work their way further into the real world.. but she was always close by keeping an eye on them.

I am posting these for Margie who sent me the coolest e-mail with a project she is working on. I hope I can blog about it soon!

I love her floppy ear!

Coats in August
 Monday, 8/10/09

I put these photos under the "travel" category. When the blog started, in order to get photos like this, I had to TRAVEL. Somewhere far. Like Wyoming. Now I have to drive an hour and a half. I need a new category. I still can not phathom I actually live here. It has been an experience, both good and bad.

I am still happy I moved, though living outside of Texas has been eye opening. I miss the Texas heat. Today it was 82. The low is 44. Don't get me wrong, I love the weather, but its like winter is looming like that cold you know your going to get when your throat first gets sore. On Saturday I had a booth at an event here on the Snake river. Its called the duck races, and they release all these ducks into the river and the first one that goes over the falls wins. It wins a lot of great things from businesses throughout the city. Like Jewelry. This is a yellow plastic duck with sunglasses, Welcome to Idaho Falls, because this was a big event. We get to the river, and prepare to set up... and guess what... ITS COLD!!!! The turn out is low because the weather is bad and everyone is wearing COATS!!! IN AUGUST. At this point, I am thinking WHAT HAVE I DONE????????

Aside from that, I have been very busy trying to get the word out about my studio. I had my first baby session on Friday and it went so well! I cant wait to blog some of those photos. I LOVE my used beat up, leaking trailer. I have yet to use any of the appliances, I truly just sleep in it.

The below photo is from late April when I came out to visit and started to think about moving. You can see the snow was slowly melting and the mountains were covered. This photo is for Kenny. Here is a taste of Wyoming for you!!!!

From what I understand, owls are what suck people into birding. I am so cliche, because I LOVE owls. I can not get enough. When I moved here, I had never seen a Great Gray up close. Now I have seen more than one along with babies and it has been one of the best experiences I have had since moving. This particular owl, I could photograph from the road and at one point, she flew right by my head and I swear had I reached out, I could have touched her. My eyes were huge, and she was going about her business, hunting for mice. I printed this photo on canvas, and I love it. Definitely one of my favorites. This is for Olivia. I have many more owl pics coming your way!

Bear cubs. Thats all I have to say. In Alaska, we had these cubs of the year and I posted some of them playing with mom in a previous post. This was taken at the end of the day, ( which in Alaska was close to 11pm.. the sun only went down for maybe an hour) and the cubs ran to the log and started playing. They were up and down and swatting each other. I can't wait to post the video, most people never get to witness this innocence among animals. They looked at us with curiosity and showed off in a playful nature. How cute are they????! This is for Lola.. some baby baaaaaaayers. :)

HAPPPPPPPPY BASTILLE DAY!!! I listened to Carla Bruni this morning to celebrate the French! The only thing missing was French Onion Soup. I have no idea where to get that in Idaho Falls.

My attempt at daily blogging was halted yesterday, on the first day. I was so busy lounging around the house with Romo. What a nice surprise, Tony flew to Idaho to live happily every after. Or at least until football season starts.

A girl can dream can't she? Looking forward to a GREAT football season now. I will address the "breakup" in an upcoming blog.

On to the bears... I had a great trip to Alaska. We flew into Kodiak, then took a float plane to our boat on the Katmai coast. We had beautiful weather, great bear viewing and fishing!!! I have a freezer full of Halibut. Thank goodness I have something to feed Tony.

There were about 10 people on the boat, and a good mix of personalities. I had the best roommate, Margie, who is coming to see me in the fall. YAY! She kept me laughing the entire trip with her animated story telling.

One weird thing about Summer in Alaska, it is light all day and almost all night. There are only a couple of dark hours. It never felt like it was time to go to sleep, being so bright out. The rocking of the boat cured that, I slept like a baby. Here is a summary of our schedule: eat, bear view, nap, eat, nap, fishing, birds, eat, bears, fishing, sleep. HEAVEN.

Two naps a day, on a boat, can cure all evil. Bliss.

Here are a few shots. I'm still weeding through these along with a hundred other photos from June. I will blog about my move soon. Everyone wants to know if I am surviving and how Idaho is, and I will give all the juicy, boring details.

This is one of my favorite shots, because you can see not only this massive bear on the move, but his HUGE LONG CLAWS. Don't piss him off.

We were lucky to find this mom with cubs, who we photographed a couple of different days. These cubs were so playful and innocent. I hope they survive and live a long old bear life. I took video of these guys, and will be uploading it this week.

The brown bears of Katmai are HUGE. I can not describe the tracks they leave.. these bears are so beautiful and fun to watch.

Sometimes I was worried we might miss one of our two naps on the boat. So I prepared in the field. When the light gets bad, or we are doing what most of wildlife photography is about... WAITING... I napped. Don't hate me because I have sexy hip waders.

On the boat, we had two big holidays. Canada day and Independence Day. With both Canadians and Americans, we had a good celebration. On the 4th, we had a picnic on an island. In Alaska. It was unreal. Hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon, potato salad and good friends. Thanks to Dan and Tanya Cox for putting on a great trip, a great picnic, and for these candids.

 Monday, 6/29/09

I will be offline and away from my computer until July 7th. I am in Kodiak, Alaska about to photogaph brown bears and cubs!!!!!!!! I have so much updating and blogging to do. I have been busy getting the studio ready and out shooting in the parks.

I bought a trailer!!!!!!! An 1977 Komfort. Its a joy! A hippy beauty. Ill update when I get back from my trip. Happy Fourth and Happy Canada Day!

Buffy
 Sunday, 4/19/09

I will get back to regular blogging soon... I promise. And boy will I have a lot to say! Here is a photo from January of Buffy the Buffalo. She seemed to be dying. Everytime we passed her, she was in the same spot, not having moved for a day or two. This day, we drove by to check on her, and she got up and started rolling around and she was SHOWING OFF! Never saw her again, so in my mind she went on to snow covered greener pastures and is happy and healthy. :)

more babies
 Sunday, 3/22/09

Sorry I have been slow posting bear photos. It has been a difficult week. Looking at polar bear babies, without a doubt, helps. Here are a few more, and I hope to go through them all and post a bunch soon.

Does it get better?

Frost bite
 Tuesday, 3/3/09

I am home and I survived the great adventure to the arctic!!!! I am crazy enough to think my minor frost bite is cool. I have been working on a lot of blog stuff, although I have not been able to post it. We did have some internet at the lodge, but it was slow. I have so many Polar Bear Baby photos to go through in the coming days, and I will share them. I had so much fun!!!!!!!! I miss it aleady. These are a couple from the first day, and the one of me is from the last day. I can tell it was wamer here, because A) my eyelashes are not frozen together and B) my camera is not iced over.

At one point, I had to pry my eyelashes apart which had huge chunks of ice on them. It was -50.

We were lucky the entire trip, but even more fortunate to see the Northern lights several nights.

Here are a few until I can write a better post about the entire adventure and add more photos.
