I have been getting so many boys lately! This is Nayan. He is so adorable and I love his outfit. He was't so sure about me at first.. but he eventually relaxed and we had a great shoot. I love those curls!

Out Of Africa
 Travel      Tuesday, 3/25/08

It is official, I am out of Africa photos. I may have the random one that turns up on Photo of the Day, but posting collections is over after this post. It's a very sad day. I thought I would show off these last few Lion photos from the last day. These are the same lions from the previous Africa post, two brothers walking. (You hear that Kevin, LIONS!)

I am excited because I plan on going back. I have several wildlife trips planned for 09.

I am working on the slideshow and should have it done tomorrow or the next day.

Another sunrise shot from the last day. Again, it was so sad knowing our trip was ending this very day, but it went out with a bang. A gorgeous sunrise and following Lions. All the hardships, the war, the fighting, the delayed trip and unrest... all paid off. We had a wonderful trip with the most kind hearted Kenyans. I would not have changed a thing! I have a new respect for not only the wildlife, but the people of Kenya and Africa.

bears and fishing
 Hot Air      Sunday, 3/23/08

I am going on a Grizzly Bear trip in a little over a year. Summer of 09. Anyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE GRIZZLY BEARS. More than Polar Bears. I have read every single Grizzly book I can find. This is going to be a dream trip. APPARENTLY fishing is also done on this trip. Rumor has it, the WINNER gets a bottle of wine. HELLO! Me+Wine=LOVE!

So I sent this photo as a warning. I grew up on the Brazos river. I learned how to fish before I learned how to walk.

Here is a shot of my mother and I when she was very pregnant with my brother. My brother and I are 3 years and 1 day apart, so I must be just under 3 here. I know my mom was VERY pregnant... but what is going on with my hair? This is before it turned curly at the age of 5... did you not have hair products mom??? However, the life jacket is rocking, Heidi Klum would definitely say we are IN!

I can catch my own grasshoppers...put worms on hooks... you name it! I am not as high maintenance as some of you think! I can still fish, I just may wear Chanel shoes when I do.

Speaking of bears.... I am not sure I ever blogged about our Polar Bear party. Beverly ( who went on the Polar Bear trip with me) and I had a party right before Christmas to raise money for Polar Bears International (PBI). It was SO last minute... but we managed to pull it off. We had a silent auction which Bev really made happen... with prizes like Al Biernat's gift certificates, Stanley Korshak GC, bottles of wine and awesome gifts from Polar Bears International.

I had these delicious creative cupcakes made at my favorite bakey, A&J Bakery. They can make ANYTHING! They made Polar Bear cupcakes!!!!

We raised over $3500 dollars to help the Polar Bears, which is great considering the last minute organization. It WILL be a yearly event, so if you have something to donate or would like to attend, let me know.

I was shocked to hear from Bev they put the invite I made in the PBI newsletter. That is so exciting to see other people happy about what we did. We had such a wonderful trip of a lifetime, its nice to give back. We have a trip planned for next year and can't wait! Here is the snippet they put in their newsletter.

leaving las vegas
 Hot Air      Friday, 3/21/08

I just got back from Las Vegas. There was a giant photographers convention, WPPI, with photographers from around the world. They hold classes, have a huge trade show and hold print competitions. My good friend Kevin Jairaj ( KJ) got TWO first place wins which is just remarkable considering the massive amount of entries. Way to go Bro!!! You can see his prints over on Kevin's blog. Can you believe one of his winning prints was a LION???? A LION!!!! I so inspired him to be more National Geographic. hahaha.. watch out next year Kevin, my Wart Hog photos may be the best thing this competition has ever seen! My friend and his girl, Aly also rocked the Childrens section with a second place.

I walk into this huge tradeshow which was held at the Paris hotel on the strip. Such a small world, I run into my friend Kimberly in the Hewlett Packard booth. Kimberly and I met on my Africa trip. She was with our group and it was her second trip to Kenya so she was a wealth of information. She was so funny on the trip, and all the girls had a great time, so it was a nice surprise to see her in Vegas. We were able to have dinner and drinks one night and she met some of my crazy ( although tired by the last night) photographer friends.

Other than catching up with my close friends, I had ONE mission at WPPI. Several people asked me what my goals for WPPI were and I said getting a photo with David Jay. Thats it. ONE FREAKING GOAL, a simple photo and I didn't do it!!!
I never saw the guy... he must have been incognito. Maybe he heard some crazy lady came to a huge convention full of classes, seminars and activities and all she was after was a snap shot with him. He is a wedding photographer in CA, I am not big on weddings as many of you know, so I am more familiar with him because of these spiffy products he sells so I can make cool slideshows among other things. My motives were selfish, I just think he is adorable and seems like a very nice guy and thought he would grace the ol blog. Mission FAILED!

Another failed mission was the return of my camera. I left my camera in a cab and realized it right after he drove off. It was a point and shoot, but all of our great girlfriend shots were on there!!!! I had my photo with Elvis from KJ's party, our crazy outtakes when only half of us knew if we were smiling or not, and shots of me wearing my new bullet boots!!!!! ARGGGGGGGG! The cabbie says he never found it... I know it was in the backseat so maybe the next passengers swiped it. Sadly, the photos I took at my grandmothers 80th birthday dinner we had at Al Beirnats was on there. A lesson learned, I am putting my phone number and a reward amount taped on all my future compact cameras.

I do have a few photos from a camera I used after that incident. ( How big of a dork am I, carrying back up compact cameras?) I did have two other smaller goals in Vegas that I actually accomplished. Seeing the pussy cat dolls and going to the new Barneys. I would like to vacation in the new Barneys. Set up a tent and sleep among the Balanciaga bags and Lanvin jewelry.

I was so glad to see all of my friends from across the country!! Here is Kori, Teri and me. Notice something different? I got bangs!

Watching the Pussycat dolls preform was fun. They have regular shows at Pure nightclub. I think Kori now knows the entire staff at Pure and LAX. I can't keep up with her. I wimp out and head come before the lights come on.

We look ridiculous trying to pull off our sexy look. Me, Kori and Teri. This is the new Cavalli.. you can tell its more pink than the one I posted before. I'll try to hunt down some better photos... these are not the best.

I did go to a few classes and it was inspiring to see all of the speakers and wonderful photographers gathered in one place. I will share more photos as I get them from my friends.

I have more Africa photos coming tomorrow... more LIONS! You hear that Kevin... I have Lion photos too! Beware!
Also a ton of babies. I will try and post a baby session each day.

Bullet boots
 Fabulous Finds      Friday, 3/21/08

I found these boots on an ELLE blog and FELL IN LOVE! I was on a mission to find them. They are Thomas Wylde bullet boots. I called every store who sells Thomas Wylde in the US and no one had them. I am suspecting they are only sold in Europe or maybe a couple of boutiques have yet to get them in. They are a spring boot and stunning!!!!

Now, they are MINE! After weeks of searching for the taller ones with no luck, I found these shorter barolo boots. After debating the purchase for about one tenth of a second, I clicked BUY. Thank the good lord for www.Net-a-porter.com who has the best designers including Thomas Wylde and these fantastic boots.

Very appropriately, these babies made their debut in Vegas. I would love to show you a photo of me wearing them had my camera not been left in a cab and so far is still missing. They are real bullets!!!! And the softest leather one can imagine. I could sleep in them! I love them so much, I am still in denial on how much I paid for them.

I also landed a new Cavalli dress. I can't find it online, but I did find one that was out for Winter. It is red, mine is exactly the same but more fuschia. The spring collections are heavenly. Finally we are starting to get back to sexier form fitting clothes and not all of this hippy earthy stuff that makes everyone look pregnant. I will post more things this week that I am adding to my wardrobe. Some people buy art for their walls, I buy art for my closet. It just happens to be wearable. I am cleaning out my entire closet... out with the old... in with the new. Fun times.

madison and flash
 Portraits      Friday, 3/21/08

I had the pleasure of going to Austin and photographing Sarah's new wonder Madison. Thanks to Laura for letting me use her studio. Six days old and Madison already has a very loyal bodyguard and protector. Flash is Sarahs beautiful Great Dane. Let me emphasize GREAT. He is a massive body full of sweetness. We had to lock him up for the first part of the shoot, only to keep him out of the photos. Every time Madison would cry, he had to rush over and make sure she was ok. That tail could take out a few lightstands. You will be seeing more of Madison and Flash over the next year.

Roar!
 Travel      Tuesday, 3/11/08

A few days without posting, one would think I could produce more vivacious Africa titles. All you get is Roar! But it is a very powerful Roar! I have hesitated, or maybe procrastinated is a better word, blogging my last day Africa photos. It seems to bring a finality to it, and I am not ready to run out of Africa pictures. These last photos I did not even download until a few days ago, so I just have seen them myself. However, I knew what was waiting for me because I can't forget that last day.

After shooting the sunrise, we followed this Lion who was walking... and walking and walking...

He was going to find a pretty Lioness and his brother.

OWEN
 Portraits      Tuesday, 3/4/08

I just photographed Owens one year portraits... It seems like only yesterday we were capturing him at 2 weeks old! He has been a little model since day one. Here are a couple from his recent session, I need to add some we did in October at the Arboretum. I will try to add those tomorrow some time. These letters are so cute for the kids... but kind of heavy. Being a baby is not easy and I know these big letters get heavy. However, I think this is a good alternative to a messy cake since he had already been through two of those! Happy Birthday Owen!!!

it's not crack
 Fabulous Finds      Sunday, 3/2/08

We all have addictions... and mine are, without a doubt, shoes and beverages.

My closet has been a work in progress and over the last week, I have really tried to get organized. There is no such thing as having too many shoes. Only too little closet space, which is the problem I am experiencing. These are only my heels. You can see on the floor I have a few of my flats, but otherwise these are just my nice heels. This represents about half of my shoes and I have NO clue where to put the rest of them. And my small handbags are there on the lower shelf, the bigger ones are in a different area.

Some of the all stars.... I can't begin to name all the designers... but there are some FINE shoes on this shelf. This photo does not do them justice.

I have KICKED my Starbucks habit. Yes, you heard that right. I only go once or twice a week now. And Raspberry Mochas are only on Sundays. I have replaced this addiction with bubble tea. I could not find the right photo, but got this one from Fat Straws, which is my favorite place in Dallas. It's on the NE corner of Alpha and Noel. I normally don't do the milk bubble tea, but rather a normal white or black tea with the little "bubbles". The bubbles are tapioca balls in the bottom which you drink with the tea through... fat straws! The people are very helpful if you don't know what to get. I was going to photograph my tea last week but I drank it too fast. Dawna told me about this and we were going to visit a place last year in NYC, but never made it. So I am addicted and will soon get her addicted. Maybe they make a pepsi bubble slushy.

I am also addicted to my favorite designers, unfortunately I can not afford them all. I am in LOVE with this green trench by Marc Jacobs. It's at Barneys. This photo does NOT do it justice. The green is brilliant and shiny, and gorgeous!!!!! If someone wanted to buy me a present, please put this on your list... I'm just saying....

Also, as long as your buying me gifts and want to feed my addictions... these Christian Louboutins from Neimans website would be a good addition to my closet. No worries, I will MAKE room. I am in a green mode, can you tell? These green and pink shoes match my blog, it would only be right to get them. Is that a business expense? :)

I couldn't let a non Africa post happen. You MUST check out this post on my good friend Laura's blog. This baby's Lion outfit might be the cutest photo EVER! I am on a mission to get one of these! ( for the babies... not me... although it would rock with my red Alexander McQueens. )

Click here to see her blog. She also has a new website worth checking out.

Another addiction of mine... PROJECT RUNWAY!!!!! Season finale this week. I am really pulling for Christian. I do love how FIERCE he is. He knows A LOT of fierce bitches... hahahaha... I am going to miss it not being on, although no need for rehab, a new season of Americas Next Top model can fill the void. A new season with an awesome new judge.

I think being addicted to shoes, clothing, tea, coffee, wine, cherry chapstick, tv shows, could be worse! It could be crack...
