HAPPPPPPPPY BASTILLE DAY!!! I listened to Carla Bruni this morning to celebrate the French! The only thing missing was French Onion Soup. I have no idea where to get that in Idaho Falls.
My attempt at daily blogging was halted yesterday, on the first day. I was so busy lounging around the house with Romo. What a nice surprise, Tony flew to Idaho to live happily every after. Or at least until football season starts.
A girl can dream can't she? Looking forward to a GREAT football season now. I will address the "breakup" in an upcoming blog.
On to the bears... I had a great trip to Alaska. We flew into Kodiak, then took a float plane to our boat on the Katmai coast. We had beautiful weather, great bear viewing and fishing!!! I have a freezer full of Halibut. Thank goodness I have something to feed Tony.
There were about 10 people on the boat, and a good mix of personalities. I had the best roommate, Margie, who is coming to see me in the fall. YAY! She kept me laughing the entire trip with her animated story telling.
One weird thing about Summer in Alaska, it is light all day and almost all night. There are only a couple of dark hours. It never felt like it was time to go to sleep, being so bright out. The rocking of the boat cured that, I slept like a baby. Here is a summary of our schedule: eat, bear view, nap, eat, nap, fishing, birds, eat, bears, fishing, sleep. HEAVEN.
Two naps a day, on a boat, can cure all evil. Bliss.
Here are a few shots. I'm still weeding through these along with a hundred other photos from June. I will blog about my move soon. Everyone wants to know if I am surviving and how Idaho is, and I will give all the juicy, boring details.
This is one of my favorite shots, because you can see not only this massive bear on the move, but his HUGE LONG CLAWS. Don't piss him off. |

We were lucky to find this mom with cubs, who we photographed a couple of different days. These cubs were so playful and innocent. I hope they survive and live a long old bear life. I took video of these guys, and will be uploading it this week.

The brown bears of Katmai are HUGE. I can not describe the tracks they leave.. these bears are so beautiful and fun to watch.

Sometimes I was worried we might miss one of our two naps on the boat. So I prepared in the field. When the light gets bad, or we are doing what most of wildlife photography is about... WAITING... I napped. Don't hate me because I have sexy hip waders.

On the boat, we had two big holidays. Canada day and Independence Day. With both Canadians and Americans, we had a good celebration. On the 4th, we had a picnic on an island. In Alaska. It was unreal. Hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon, potato salad and good friends. Thanks to Dan and Tanya Cox for putting on a great trip, a great picnic, and for these candids.

I am back home from Alaska. I was excited to get home and back to work at the studio. Things are coming along nicely there, and I will post photos soon. Before I can wade through the Brown Bear photos, I had to organize some things I shot the last couple of months. Here is a photo I took before the sun came up just outside of Idaho Falls. I am working on a slideshow of images and many blogs to catch everyone up on the last couple of months. I am having a blast and still happy I moved. Lots of life changes, hopefully for the best!
